Why is hair transplantation performed?
Today, hair transplantation is one of the few solutions available for those suffering from androgenetic alopecia. Medicines like Finasterid and Minoxidil can lead to improvement but only in the presence of still-vital follicles.
Since the transplanted bulbs retain the characteristics of the donor area, genetically resistant to alopecia, transplantation can be considered a definitive treatment. However, it cannot act on the primary causes of alopecia.
Planting Techniques
Until a few years ago, the operation consisted of the removal of a strip of the scalp from the occipital area. This was then dissected under the microscope and transferred to the receiving area in the form of micro-grafts. However, this method had limitations: scars in the donor area, post-operative pains and loss of sensitivity.
Recently, a new transplantation method has been developed based on the picking and grafting of individual bulbs. This method makes use of special instruments which extract single follicular units which can contain from one to four hair bulbs. This method, called FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction), has evolved over time into Micro FUE, which uses even smaller instruments to make the transplant less invasive.
Today, more attention is given to the hair’s direction and arrangement than in the past in order to obtain a more natural result. The result of hair transplantation performed with FUE is extremely natural and is free of heavy post-operative problems and scars. For these reasons, hair transplantation performed by experts is an effective and minimally invasive solution.
The surgery
Hair transplantation is performed under local anaesthesia. Thanks to the techniques used, it is not painful and the side effects are limited. The professionalism and experience of a qualified expert allow you to customize the result to the utmost, and the quality of the result depends on an accurate pre-surgical visit.
